📜 Khao So
Lanna chain-rhyme verse (Singkha Wannasai's chart)
Khao is written line after line as one long chain. The old rule of thumb is "three words look back, seven words make a step": a front line of 3 words, a back line of 4, the back line rhymes back on the last word of the front line, and the rhyme is passed on. This chart follows Singkha Wannasai (1960): the first stanza has 11 lines, each later stanza 10.
ⓘ For khao these are hints, never verdicts: no chart appears in old Lanna manuscripts, scholars draw it differently, and poets tested a verse by reading it aloud. Read it aloud; if it flows, it is fine.

How to read the chart: each circle is one syllable (คำ); circles on a row are one couplet (บาท); a solid line joins words that must rhyme, a dotted line an extra rhyme; a tone mark above a circle is the tone the chart asks for (Chiang Mai speech).
