Lanna under Burmese rule: who held which city
Slide from 1558 to 1804 and see on a map how Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Nan and Chiang Saen stood at each point: ruled by a Burmese appointee, by a local lord, free of Burma, sided with Ayutthaya or Siam, or abandoned. Every step has a short note, Kham Mueang words from the dictionary and its sources.
How to use it
Drag the year slider, use ‹ › or press ▶ to play step by step. Tap a city on the map or in the list for details. The overview grid below shows every city at every step; tap a cell to jump there. A hollow grey dot means our sources do not say.
What it teaches
That the Burmese period in Lanna was not one uniform era: which towns had Burmese governors and which kept local lords, when Chiang Mai was independent, and why Chiang Saen was the last stronghold.
